What is Infertility?

Infertility can be a devastating diagnosis when your heart longs for children. What is infertility? Infertility is defined as being unable to conceive a child after having unprotected sex for 6-24 months. Sometimes the problem is temporary or situational and other times it is more long lasting with very few solutions. When a couple faces infertility, the first questions they often ask are “why us?” and “which one of us is to blame?” There are two parties involved when it comes to making a child and either or both could have issues with infertility. Below are the two types of infertility and what you can do about them.

Female Infertility

Infertility in females can be caused by a variety of things and a doctor will want to examine you thoroughly to try to find the root cause. Your doctor will want to examine you to see if you are ovulating correctly. If your body is not producing the eggs there is no chance you will ever be able to become pregnant naturally. Other causes of infertility can be illness, stress, and physical deformities of the reproductive organs. Your particular issue will determine the proper treatment. For example, when you are not producing eggs, often it is because of hormonal problems, which can be addressed by hormone therapy. Physical deformities can sometimes be addressed with surgical procedures.

Male Infertility

Infertility in males can also be caused by a variety of issues.  Sperm is the male contribution to the reproductive process and this is generally the area of concern with male infertility. Medical problems, heredity, prescription drugs and lifestyle choices can impact the health of male sperm. A low sperm count is the most common male infertility issue.

Infertility Treatment Options

Conventional treatments for infertility include surgery, especially if there is a physical problem such as endometriosis or damaged fallopian tubes. Medications can be used to address hormonal imbalances. The last resort for most couples is in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.

The main problem with most conventional treatments for infertility is the cost. You can quickly spend thousands of dollars trying to conceive a child with no results. Additionally, infertility drugs can cause side effects which are very unpleasant.

Natural Treatment for Infertility

Many people are beginning to look to the natural world for an answer to their problems. Before you spend a ton of money and effort on IVF treatment or other costly procedures, it is worth trying some of the natural infertility treatments available. Many couples have had success using acupuncture and herbal remedies. These holistic infertility treatments can also increase the effectiveness of IVF treatment as well.

Men and women both can have physical or hormonal problems that result in infertility. There are many answers to the question of what is infertility and what can be done about it. If you have been trying for at least a year to have a baby with no results, it is a good idea to see your physician. He or she can do an initial assessment of you and your partner. In some cases, your doctor may want to refer you to a specialist who deals with infertility issues. There is hope; only about 5% of women will be in the category of never being able to have a baby naturally, for the rest there is always hope through medical advancements and natural infertility treatments such as the Pregnancy Miracle program, which has successfully reversed infertility for thousands of women.
